Photography is a way of awakening your senses”

These are the poetic yet straight forward words of Tine, a hobby photographer guided by her curiosity and ‘gut feeling’.

For her photography is a way of sense and she loves dwelling in beautiful scenery. One of these sceneries was the charming, picturesque streets of Paris where she did her Erasmus Exchange a couple of years ago.

She discovered the city just walking around alone full of joy with her smartphone and getting inspired by all the beauty around her.

This was a way of exploring the city and everything around her, expressing herself through the lens of her phone.

“I find it meditative.”

“I find it meditative. Sometimes being lucky enough to capture those moments and try to tell a tiny visual story about what I saw and felt in that specific moment, is super fun.”

Tine likes to create her own little games, a way of playing in her own laboratory.

For her photography is not platonic but more so a way to awaken all her senses. To get impressions, to feel inspired, to see new perspectives. One of the most inspiring things Tine told me is that she gives space for the intuitive which does not necessarily come with logic.

It rather comes with this cringing feeling of something that is hard to put into words but awakens your soul. Wow!

I think that’s a major challenge in society, that there is almost always very little or no space for this.”

When it comes to creation and meaning I agree with Tine that the most important force is following your curiosity and instinct. Somehow simply being drawn to that specific corner or staircase, listening to that feeling and giving space to that.

Now let´s be honest, basically, this counts in every aspect of life, whatever it may be.

This can be in a creative process, like photography or in a new, more effective way of using excel being an accountant. It doesn’t matter.”

What does matter, is that when time is well spent, that´s when you lose track of it.”

For Tine, visual aspiration has always been a big part of her life. Whether it´s buying a lot of magazines or going to museums, where she usually spends some time in the museum shop.

“I always have this urge to check out the museum shop, even though I know most items are crazy expensive.”

So instead she always buys an artsy postcard, which has created a pretty big collection throughout the years. One day she wants to turn it into one, big collage! Also, Tine has always been interested in fashion, a visual form of self-expression – colors, patterns, combinations.

She is drawn to many different things. Photography is one of them but it’s an infrequent thing in Tine’s life. However, she does feel that her pictures are evolving. Her motives looked a bit more traditional in the past but nowadays they are more abstract.

She got more experienced and dug deeper into her interest and now she sees it more as an art form, her art form.

What I thought was refreshing in Tine´s story is that she also gives a voice to the impact of all the amazing photography out there, especially on social media. It´s hard nowadays to not get influenced by all the work and a desire to shoot the same, but differently.

I have the feeling we all have this urge to be ´unique´. But by being so focussed on that, you actually kind of lose it.

Let´s all try to quit our urge to be unique and just do what feels natural.

“Because everything we do in life is built on something, someone else created already.”

As long as you do the things that come from deep within yourself and in a natural flow, it is unique and that is pretty damn interesting!

What do you think? Do you agree? Leave a comment and tell us about how that works for you!

Top 8 Candid Photography Tips for Stunning Photos

We all know how to make a selfie or to pose in front of a landmark. Smile when told to and jump when prompted. And it’s great to have those posed pics from the one and only time you did that awesome hike with your newly found friends. Nothing wrong with that. But having authentic shots from your friends and family while you’re traveling is …….. well I would say even greater.
