Photography Projects by Philine Bernard
“When I grab my camera, I can just shoot for hours”
This month’s blog is about a very dear friend of mine. I’ve known Philine for 17 years and her obsession in photography hasn’t been a surprise for me. For me, she is a person who is always on a discovery, a free bird and mesmerized by the natural beauty in life. Philine’s photography obsession is nature.
Obsessed and inspired by nature, traveling and the outdoors wherever she goes she absolutely loves being surrounded by and soaking in the natural beauty of what earth has to offer
“That fascination drives me to capture all sorts of landscapes, forests, natural sceneries, plants, flowers, and textures to recreate that powerful feeling in my shots.”
“It’s something so diverse, personal and creative which I cannot get enough of and want to continuously explore.”
Photography didn’t always play a big role in Philine’s life. It´s something that she became very interested in around 5 years ago.
Back in 2009, Philine took this amazing trip with her parents and brother. They went on a 6-week road trip through the US and Canada. For this trip they bought a camera and even though she didn’t use it that much, she still remembers the fascination she felt for the equipment and what it can create.
Taking a road trip like this is super high on my bucket list. I can imagine the landscapes there must be incredible and such an inspiration to make pictures!
Since that trip in the US, her obsession in photography grew big time! At this point, it is still in the early stages. However, photography is a never-ending process that always keeps evolving and growing and that’s the magic of it!
“If I truly think about it, the reason why I’m obsessed with natural elements, landscapes and the outdoor experience is because the usual rush of daily life gets to a standstill. It’s something so diverse, personal and creative which I cannot get enough of and want to continuously explore.”
Besides remembering those precious moments in her mind, photography is the one thing that can visually capture it. She experiences that her pictures refresh those feelings so she can hold on to them forever.
“It fulfills me because I’m automatically drawn into that exact moment and forget about everything.”
Pushing the button and capturing those moments comes from emotional reasoning as well as pure excitement and fun. For Philine, these two aspects alternate each other.
“When I hike a trail in the Swiss Alps and I’m standing on a spot with great views, that exact “Woah” feeling and the overwhelming vibe is what excites me to get the shot just right to revive those feelings when you look at the picture.”
When Philine grabs her camera she can just shoot for hours. Photographing never bores her and she can lose herself in the moment completely.
“It fulfills me because I’m automatically drawn into that exact moment and forget about everything.”
This creates calmness for her and she gets in a different headspace altogether.
“If I had to compare a few shots I’d say I learned about composition and light. What I aim for is to capture those moments that make me feel so much in awe of things, that humbling feeling, and hope to pass on that feeling to people who see my photos.”
Philine’s advice for everyone out there who is interested in photography is to keep pushing yourself to improve. Learn, be inspired and check in with your mindset once in a while.
When it comes to any kind of art, it’s about your internal development, growth, and awareness. And when you’re able to communicate this out into the world, it’s awesome!
“It’s a lot about inner development to express development.”
